Origin

Tora is the daughter of the king of the legendary ice-people of Norway discovered by scientist Rod Schoendienst. Making a pact with the king, Schoendienst was allowed to bring Tora out of her kingdom and into the outside world. Introduced to Dr. Mist, Tora joined the Global Guardians replacing Icemaiden Sigrid Nansen.

History

Global Guardians

Sigrid Nansen is the original Icemaiden who grew up in Norway. Upon the formation of the Global Guardians, Norway was pressure to send a representative of their own to the team. As a test-subject volunteer in a government project to duplicate the powers of the legendary Ice-people, Sigrid was given ice and snow-projecting powers. She then joined the Global Guardians.

When the Norwegian government discovered the real Ice-people. One of their own, Tora Olafsdotter also joined the team in return for the goverment's help in protecting her people. This somehow made Sigrid inadequate and decided to quit the team. Tora became fast friends with Beatriz da Costa (a.k.a. Green Fury/Green Flame/Fire) during her time with the Global Guardians.

Justice League

When the Global Guardians lost their U.N. funding, Fire convinced Tora to join the Justice League by hounding the Martian Manhunter until he admitted them to the team. Shortly after joining the team, Bea and Tora changed their names to simply "Fire" and "Ice". The shy and good-natured Tora served with the league for many years where she dated Guy Gardner and briefly pursued a romance with Superman, her big-time crush. When she briefly returned to her kingdom, she discovered that her brother, Ewald, was mind-controlled by the Overmaster. In the aftermath of her confrontaion with her brother, Tora absorbed the Overmaster's powers while Ewald was killed in the explosion. Aside from amplifyng her ice-generating powers, she gained the powers of flight and super-strength before her untimely death at the hands of the Overmaster.

Ice's spirit reappears when she and several deceased JLA members help the team defeat Felix Faust. In the end, she sacrifices herself again to save the JLA from his dark magic, and recites the same final words she spoke when killed by the Overmaster.

Ice appeared in the 1997 live action made-for-TV movie pilot Justice League of America. She was played by Kimberly Oja.

Ice and Fire have both made several appearances in Justice League Unlimited, although Tora never had a speaking role.
