Origin
Edit
Ranakar is, or was, a member of the Guardians of the Universe and a Maltusian. Little to nothing is known of Ranakar's personal history, except that he is a Guardian of the Universe that had taken a name, and that he at one time had joined with Superman of Earth to defeat a being known as the Weapons Master, who at the time had stolen a Green Lantern Ring and a Power Battery, and was using the link to the Central Power Core on Oa to take control of several Lanterns.

Green Energy Manipulation: As a Guardian of the Universe, Ranakar is or was capable of harnessing and effectively wielding the emotional concept of Willpower. This, combined with his natural telepathic and telekinetic abilities gives him unimaginable cosmic powers that rival that of the beings such as the Spectre and the Antimonitor.

Green Lantern: First Flight
Edit
In the animated film Green Lantern: First Flight, Ranakar is shown as one of the named Guardians that appears in the film, along with Appa Ali Apsa and Ganthet, and is the more aggressive of the three (Ganthet being the fair one and Appa being the more neutrally temperamental). He is often shown throughout the film to be irritable and outspoken, voicing his opinions even when Sinestro takes Oa by storm. After having his mouth taped shut by Sinestro's yellow ring, and and finally wrenching it off after Sinestro demands the Guardians give up power, Ranakar retorts "Like Hell!", and incensed, suggests the Guardians take down Sinestro themselves.
His attitude towards Hal Jordan for the majority of the film is nothing less than skeptical and prejudiced, claiming that the Guardians, and most of the universe, know Earth and its people to be most primitive, personally outlining a number of undesirable traits humans possess. After Sinestro's defeat, and the resurrection of the Oan Power Battery however, Ranakar, like most of the Corps., has substantially warmed up to Hal's place in the Green Lanterns, and even shouts "Here, here!" enthusiastically when Ganthet suggests Hal lead the Corps. in reciting the Oath.
