History

The specific history of why Katherine "Kathy" Kane became Batwoman was undisclosed. It was suggesed that like the Earth-Two Batwoman, Kane was extremely infatuated with Batman of her native dimension to the point that she assumed the costume identity in order to get close to him and hopefully engage in an emotional relationship with him. It worked but not quite in the way she had hoped, as the Earth-One Batman wanted her to retire from the role for his fear that she would be hurt in her costumed exploits. This fear would prove prophetic as she was later killed by the League of Assassins after proving to be an open target to distract Batman from his focused concentration to provide them a chance to destroy Wayne. The murder of Batwoman instead focused Waye to the point where Wayne almost crippled her killer, the Bronze Tiger.

She and her history was eliminated along with everyone else on her native Earth-One in the Crisis on Infinite Earths.
