[edit] Origin
The Green Lantern Pavathim Seth-Ottarak traveled to the planet Garnet (known as "Hellhole" to its inhabitants), seeking to quell the lawlessness rampant there. Shortly after arriving, however, he was killed by Trosk, a self-titled "anti-lawman" and infamous murderer. As his last act, Pavathim sent his ring to find a suitable replacement, and the ring chose Jack T. Chance. Jack accepted his new role as Green Lantern, and confronted Trosk, out to succeed where his predecessor failed. Trosk's custom golden bullets, paired with his unwillingness to stop fighting while still alive, proved to be too much for Chance, who resorted to shooting and killing Trosk.
Chance was recalled to Oa for punishment for killing another sentient, but, due to the lack of suitable alternative candidates to serve as Garnet's Green Lantern, Chance and the Guardians of the Universe brokered a deal whereby he able to stay with the Corps, but his ring worked only on Garnet. Thereafter, he served as Garnet's resident Green Lantern.
[edit] Battling Evil Hal Jordan
He battled and was dismembered (but not killed) by Lobo, and he was one of several Green Lanterns who assemble to stop Hal Jordan reaching Oa and draining the Main Battery of the Green Lantern Corps. As with the other Green Lanterns, Jordan took his ring and left Chance for dead.
[edit] Prisioner of Biot
However, Chance was discovered years later on Biot, the homeworld of the Manhunters. The Cyborg Superman had been using him, along with numerous other forgotten Lanterns as a power source. Jordan and Guy Gardner helped Chance and the others defeat the cyborg and destroy Biot. They soon realize Hal is not fighting back and Kreon is killed by a manhunter. The rest of the Lanterns fight back before Hal and Arisia blow up Biot. Afterwards, Jack with the other lanterns tell Guy they don't like him but won't attack him. The lost lanterns continue to hate Hal even after the surprise attack by Sinestro corps members.
Jack was part of the rescue attempt to save Ion on Qward. Parallax, now in complete control of Kyle, tries to show Several lanterns their fears but fails, he then shows Jack his father beating him. Jack gives into fear, and is slain by Parallax.
