Azmodus was an evil entity and one of the more notorious foes of the Spectre.

He was the combined essences of Caraka, first host to the Spectre, and a demon known as Sekuba. In the mid-late 1940s, Azmodus was bound to a human host, in much the same way that the Spectre, Aztar, was bound to the corporeal body of Jim Corrigan. He remained trapped inside a mortal shell for more than twenty years because reality could not abide having two entities as powerful as Azmodus and the Spectre to remain on Earth untethered. When Azmodus' host body died, his essence was consigned to the astral plane reality of Tholagga.

While investigating a case, Jim Corrigan participated in a séance that inadvertently released both the Spectre and Azmodus from the astral realm. As the Spectre rejoined Corrigan, so too did Azmodus find a new human host - Paul Evers. Azmodus and the Spectre fought against one another on the astral plane, while Corrigan physically fought against Paul Nevers. Corrigan defeated Nevers, and by extension, this enabled the Spectre to defeat Azmodus. His essence was stripped away from Nevers and left to languish in limbo. [1]

Return and Rematch

The soul of Azmodus was eventually consigned to Hell where he became the demon familiar for Lord Shathan. During a time when his master was being tortured, Azmodus managed to slip out of Hell.[2] Back on Earth, Azmodus gathered the shadows of willing human victims, which he then used as hosts.[3] Once he gathered enough power, he challenged Spectre to a fight in the Astral Plane, knowing that Spectre would be distracted due to Corrigan's affairs on Earth.[4] Azmodus lost the fight, thanks to Madame Xanadu; but Spectre didn't finish him as to return back to Earth.[5] A weakened Azmodus returned to Earth and started gathering shadows once again, in order to restore his powers and defeat Spectre and Xanadu once and for all.[6]

  • Power Limitation: Azmodus needs a human host to enter the Earth dimension. His level of power depends on his host's health.[1]
  • Power Limitation (Formerly): The Earth realm can't support the presence of two astral beings like Azmodus and the Spectre simultaneously.[1]
